This has just started happening.
When I save a project to Midi, regardless of the style I use in the song, the MIDI comes back with a jazz style no matter what.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Good morning. Sorry you're having issues saving your midi project. The default Style for opening a BIAB SGU project is ZZJAZZ. It's likely a preference has been changed causing the default jazz style to load at opening.

I suggest to first open the preferences and review any backups. It's possible you can load a backup preference setting file that's dated prior to you noticing the change of midi files not loading the correct Style. If there are no backups, in the Options Tab, there's a return to Factory Defaults that may revert saving midi files back to how they were saving originally.

You can also open Preferences and select the Midi File tab and confirm all the settings are correct for your preferred settings.

I created a midi song and saved it as a midi file and reopened the song and the style I used on my project correctly loaded.

Welcome to the forum.

Charlie is right about the default MIDI style. It dates back thirty years to when BIAB was created to play along with jazz fakebook songs. You can change that default, however, and write back if you need instructions. Usually, though, you start a song by selecting a style, so it doesn't really matter what the default is. If I recall correctly, there are a few utility styles to give you only drums and not default instruments for any particular genre. Tell us more.

Hi DerFlex,

Can you please give us an example of a style that you tried to save in MIDI and that was saved as jazz? We can then test that style. It could be that you are working with Realstyles (ones that use Realtracks and not MIDI tracks) and this might be impacting on what you are doing.

Also, are you using BIAB 2024?

Regards,
--Noel

Welcome also.

Could you please provide the exact steps you take together with the results?

Is it possible that you are saving / exporting the file as a MIDI file without actually changing the BIAB Style, and when re-opening the MIDI it adopts whatever style is currently the default?

Note that normally, if you Open Special > Open MIDI file, BIAB will attempt to load a suitable MIDI Style, usually beginning with 'ZZ'.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
